What is Parasite Infestation?

Parasites are defined as ‘any organism that lives on, or in, the body of another organism'. Parasites which live inside the human body will feed off of our cells, the food we eat and even the supplements that we take.

What causes Parasite Infestation?

Parasites can enter the body through the mouth, the nose or the skin. Humans can get parasites from the following sources:

  • Contaminated fruits and vegetables
  • Walking barefoot in sand or soil
  • Raw or rare meat
  • Pets
  • Mosquitoes or other insects
  • Unclean water (spring water)
  • Contact with someone who has parasites

What are the signs and symptoms of Parasite Infestation?

Some of the signs and symptoms of parasite infestation are:

  • Diarrhea or constipation
  • Digestive complaints - gas, bloating, cramps
  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome
  • Overall fatigue
  • Joint pain
  • Teeth grinding - parasites affect the nervous system
  • Prostatitis
  • Rectal itching
  • Ravenous appetite or loss of appetite
  • Skin problems, or rashes
  • Granulomas (tumour-like masses that encase parasites)

How common is Parasite Infestation?

“Eight out of ten people in North America harbor one or more parasites”

(Rona, Encycolopedia of Natural Medicine. 1997, p.1038)

What health problems are caused by Parasite Infestation?

Many disorders have been associated with parasites including;

  • Arthritis
  • Appendicitis
  • Weight problems
  • Cancer
  • Epilepsy

Parasites can cause problems that are often not recognized as parasite related and result in an incorrect or incomplete diagnosis. For example, a roundworm infestation in the stomach can give the appearance of a peptic ulcer.

The damage that parasites cause occurs not only when they feed off of our cells, but also from the waste they excrete. This waste poisons the body, overworking the organs of elimination. Processing this excess waste can weaken the immune system, eventually resulting in chronic disease.
